to unions representing tens of thousands of state workers as a precaution in case of an extended

shutdown of the federal government. Budget director John Nixon says the move is necessary because

the state gets $20 billion from the federal government or 40% of state spending. Michigan is going

to lose $18 million a day each day of this shutdown. Oh great. Nixon says he worries about welfare and

food assistance programs because spending on them normally is protected in a shutdown but the

programs weren't reauthorized. The 1.6 million Michigan residents on food stamps will be okay in

October because their debit cards already have been loaded. In two weeks the state though will

really feel the pain and in a month they say there's going to be a lot of problems if they don't

wrap this shutdown up. 1.6 million Michigan residents on food stamps. I had no idea was that high.

It's not good. That is not good at all. So many people know jobs, man. We need more jobs.
