Hey, friends. Welcome back to today's episode of Everyday Truth. And I'm really excited to jump

into First Kings chapter 18 today. It's a familiar passage. It's the passage that includes the

contest between the prophets of Bail and Elijah on Mount Carmel. But if we're not careful,

when we read our Bible or hear Bible stories, we will forget the larger context of the story. And I think we rob

ourselves of some really deep meaning when we do that. So I'm so glad we're going through the

Bible just verse by verse and seeing the context as it emerges. And that's exactly what we'll do

today. So just to put to frame this a bit today,

remember at the beginning of chapter 17, Elijah shows up on the scene because Ahab has introduced

bail worship to the people of Israel, and that's a bad thing. And remember what Elijah says to Ahab is it won't reign

until I say so. And really what that means is it won't rain until God says so, because Elijah is

simply speaking for God. Remember, prophets in the Bible, Old Testament prophets, were those

that spoke to man from God, as opposed to a

priest who would speak to God for man. And Jesus is both our prophet and our priest and our king,
