Starting with the University of Washington,

where trailblazing president, Anamari Kousi has announced she'll retire from the presidency next year.

Kauze marked multiple notable first for the longstanding institution.

She's the first Latina president, the first openly LGBT president, and is in fact the first female president in Udub's 163 years.

She announced her final year in a video statement.

It has been the absolute honor of a lifetime, and I am very much focused on making next year an amazing year, but it is important to make this

transition a really good one.

Kousey says she plans to return to her faculty rule where she's a professor of psychology.

But over the coming years, she'll be fully focused on specific priorities, including expanding

access to education statewide,
