Well Houston lost another legend

John Joseph Burke Jr. known as Jack Burke and then Jackie Burke.

Every golfer in Houston knows the legend of the founder and owner of Champions Golf Club,

won the Masters, won the PGA Championship.

He was 10 days shy of turning 101. He lived a full 100 years did

Jackie Burke. I'm not a big golfer. I've had the honor of

meeting him but I know that men I respect that don't don't idolize many people,

cower in his presence, the great Jackie Bird.

1950, 61, the Masters and the PGA Championship World Golf Hall of Fame 16

PGA Tour wins most of those in the 50s. I think maybe all of those.

1957 he and Jimmy De Merit founded Champions Golf Club in Houston.

They hosted the Rider Cup. Champions Golf Club in Houston.

They hosted the Rider Cup, the U.S. Open, they hosted, but became the show Houston Open.

And he too went to St. Thomas High School. Graduating in

1940, then he went to Rice, went on to play golf. His father was the head pro at River Oaks Country Club.

In 1942 he became the professional at the Galveston Country Club.

If you've ever seen that, it's out on the west end right next to pirates. It's a great

place to go and eat. I tend to eat at the clubs from them rather than play them.

But I've got a buddy Jason Lingo that plays there.

I bet once a week loves it, favorite course.
