In 2018, I joined an all women's leadership expedition to Antarctica as podcaster in residence.

Our trip plan had been to get all the way to the Rothera Research Station,

a place that's so remote, it's almost an illusion.

Good morning,

we are in the right place at the right time.

But we had a problem.

If we want to go to Rothera, it requires us to go into open water tonight.

Now we had to choose.

Do we risk going out into the open waters with weather coming in?

But maybe the strangest thing was that this was actually a question, on a ship in the middle of Antarctica.

We've made a decision to bring a vote to you all,

which is not common in this sort of context.

And this vote, this approach, it changed everything.

It's downstairs, basically having a full-scale panic attack. Is it just we'll be rolling a bit, but it's perfectly safe and this boat has navigated those conditions hundreds of times before.
