Summary

As the impeachment inquiry continues with committee counsels testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, former Republican counsel for the House Oversight Committee during the impeachment of President Clinton, Barbara Comstock, joins "The Investigation." Comstock, a former Congresswoman from Virginia and now an ABC News contributor, reveals what she called "an odd thing for Republicans to be saying" when it comes to the impeachment process and shares her theory as to why she believes the American public is not engaged: "We know how the movie ends, and we know the final chapter won’t be until next November." Then, co-hosts Chris Vlasto and John Santucci discuss ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas' exclusive interview with FBI Director Wray, as all eyes turn to the FBI with the release of the Department of Justice Inspector General’s report into the origins of the Russia investigation.

But before that, she served as chief Republican counsel for

the House Oversight Committee and is now an ABC News consultant.

Barbara, when I watch these hearings today, I actually think that the Democrats really did not

0:33.5

do a good job at telling a story for the American people to grab on to this impeachment.

0:41.4

I mean, for lack of a better term, it was just boring.

0:45.8

What do you think?

0:46.7

I would agree.

0:48.4

They, you know, last week, and really, this is why the Judiciary Committee wasn't initially

0:54.1

given the hearings. Last

0:56.0

week, it was very dull, kind of lost people's interest. And I think because each side is very

1:02.7

partisan, but when you're the defense side, the Republican side, that's what you're supposed to do.

1:07.1

But when you're the prosecutor, when you're presenting the case, you should be showing pictures, you should be showing evidence, you should be putting it up on the wall so everyone can see it.

1:17.1

You should be telling a story that's somehow understandable.

1:20.6

And I think they have really failed at that.

1:22.5

I think that's why Nancy Pelosi went out so quickly after last week's hearing to say we're moving forward, and now they want to move forward very quickly.

1:31.7

But, you know, I understand the problem that Nancy Pelosi had, that she knew that Jerry Nadler's hearings had been a disaster when Corey Lindowski were there.

1:41.1

And then, so she took it out of Jerry Nadler's hands and gave it to Adam Schiff.

1:46.3

His committee seemed to have, but that was the drama per se. But now, but I think the American

people are phasing out already. I don't, as the TV producer in me tells me that you've got to

keep holding your audience and they're actually
