And just a little of his biography, and then I'll sit down.

He got his English degree as an undergraduate at Rutgers. I studied at University of Chicago and went back to Rutgers and finished his PhD.

He shifted over to political science. He then taught at Princeton for six or seven

years. He just wrote the other day about one of his students, who's now Secretary of Defense.

So Patrick was guiding him, grooming him from many years back.

So not this time.

But he then went to Georgetown where I think that's where we met.

Patrick had me for a visit for a couple of days with him and his group of students who you could tell had been fired up by this undergraduate instructor.

And Patrick, over the years, has committed himself deeply to undergraduate instruction while doing a lot of important research.

He then went to Notre Dame in 2012. His books, the first book out of his dissertation, The Odyssey of Political Theory, was the first one.

The next one, Democratic Faith.

The next one that President Corcoran mentioned, why liberalism failed.

It's an important word there in the title and it's not liberalism.

And finally, regime change, more recently toward a post-liberal future, which recalls the title of our lecture.

Today, he really did something that all intellectuals, thinkers, and academics dream of doing, and that is he
