are believed to be dead after debris discovered near the Titanic was found to be consistent with a

catastrophic implosion according to the United States Coast Guard. Part of Titan's pressure

chamber along with other pieces were found by a remote-operated vehicle

about 1,600 feet from the Titanic.

The announcement came just hours after experts predicted the Titans' air supply had likely

already run out.

A senior U.S. Navy official tells NBC News that a sound consistent with an implosion was heard

back on Sunday shortly after the submersible lost communications. However, the sound was not

definitive, the official said. It's not known if officials will be able to recover any remains

or if an investigation into the vessel's failure will be

conducted. The White House released a statement expressing condolences yesterday and thanked all of
