This is not an attempt to ban TikTok. It's an attempt to make TikTok better.

The bill seriously undermines civil liberties by essentially banning a platform that

150 million Americans use to engage in free speech and expression.

That's just some of the debate over TikTok yesterday taking place on the House floor

before lawmakers voted by a massive margin to pass a bill that could

potentially ban the popular app. We'll go through where the legislation will stand in the Senate.

Thanks for starting your day with us. The House has overwhelmingly voted to pass a bill that could ban TikTok here in the United States. It passed with remarkable bipartisan support, 352 to 65, with one member voting present. Lawmakers in favor of the bill say its goal is to

solely to divest the popular social media platform

from its Chinese parent company.

Opponents say the bill will effectively ban the app

and call the legislation a form of censorship.

Our intention is for TikTok to continue to operate, but not under the control of the Chinese Communist Party.

It's an overly broad bill that I don't think would stand First Amendment scrutiny.
