We'll begin with the latest on the possibility of our government

shutdown. The House of Representatives has passed a short-term spending bill that would fund

government agencies through next Friday. That gives lawmakers additional time to finish crafting

a $1.7 trillion appropriations package that covers the fiscal year. The bill, which passed the House

largely along party lines, now heads to the Senate, which must pass it by midnight tomorrow night

or face a partial government shutdown. The top Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee,
