Karina has been growing them for a long time and she has some pretty interesting insights as far as how to water it properly, especially if you're dealing with fungus gnats, which we've talked about here on the podcast as well.

So I'm going to go ahead and jump it on over to Karina.

Karina want you to tell us a little bit about kind of your plight of caring for your

monaster and how you solved it.

Okay, hi.

So I got my first monastera about five years ago

and had absolutely no problem with pests and with my house plants at the time so I just

watered it from the dirt I would just pour water distilled water over it about once a

week and all was fine and then when I got a bag of dirt that was infested with

fungus gnats and spread it without knowing over a lot of my plants things got

crazy so I decided I read up on how I needed to not water the top of the soil as one way to avoid

the fungus

that dirt.

So I decided to start watering my monsera through the aerial roots.

So what I started to do was train the aerial roots

from each branch, each stem, each group of my Monstera.

I would train the aerial routes that were cascading down into a mason jar.

And so that way I knew that it would be getting enough hydration and I just stopped watering the soil for I mean really about two months total.
