Hey guys what's up welcome back to the epic gardening podcast today is an interesting

0:05.8

one because today we're talking about water temperature both in soil so I guess

0:12.0

soil temperature and also water temperature for your nutrient reservoir in

0:16.8

hydroponics so this is a question that I've gotten more than once so I

0:21.4

figured you know you get a question more than once why don't

0:23.9

answer it for everyone out there so that that answer is just out there and we can

0:29.0

refer to it in the future. So if you didn't know hydroponics is the practice of growing plants in a medium other than soil.

0:35.6

Typically, that medium is just water and nutrients. Now if you're growing in just water and nutrients,

0:42.2

then the temperature of that nutrient

0:45.1

solution is actually really important to figure out.

0:48.5

Unlike growing in soil, which is basically a self-regulating temperature system because you can't really control it all that much.

0:57.0

Of course you can definitely throw some mulch on top or you can do some other things to control

1:01.2

that temperature, but in general it stays around the same

1:04.8

temp. With hydroponics that's not the case you're you're manufacturing an environment so you need to

1:10.2

figure out okay well what temperature does does this water need to be at?

1:14.4

Because the roots are just sitting in it all the time.

1:17.6

They're sitting in that bath of water, nutrients, and ideally, air, if you're oxygenating it with an airstone.

1:25.0

So the question then becomes, well what temperature matters or what temperature

1:30.0

should I try to keep this at?

1:32.0

So generally you want to mimic something close to

1:36.1

the ideal temperature for soil gardening and in most cases that's going to be

1:41.8

anywhere from 65 to 80 degrees.
