I'm Cindy Yu and I'm joined today by Kate Andrews and Fraser Nelson.

Now in the past week, Liz Truss has resurfaced, giving her version of events that led her down

for at Sonya Tonograph piece, but also in an interview with spectator TV, which listeners to

this podcast would have heard. But today we're talking about whether or not she was right.

I mean, it's quite a good question and I think it encompasses a lot of things and I think we have

two different perspectives here. So before we get into the proper dinging Fraser, maybe just

why don't you ask both of you to just set your positions out in one sentence for

that you can go first? Well, I don't think it's too dinging, but over several months,

when we're debating Liz Truss, what she's trying to do, even during leadership contest,

Kate and I have a different perspective. So I've been a lot more sympathetic to Liz Truss's

general critique of the Roses of Government and of the needs on occasion for deficit finance

tax cuts. I think that her downfall was to do the combination of factors and I think that enough

time has passed for us to separate them, to look at what she did wrong, but also what she did

right and whether her fundamental message was one which was not only correct, but one of the

conservatives are going to have to end up going back to whether they like it or not. Kate,

Fraser and I are going to agree on some of the bigger picture messaging around the

necessity for growth, around the necessity for getting that tax burden down. But the question of

this podcast is not our tax cuts a good thing or is going for growth the right thing to do.
