0:14.3	who is Jesus? On a Sunday morning in September 1963 white supremacist
0:20.3	detonated a bomb outside of 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. This the face of Jesus in that stained-glass window of a predominantly African-American
0:37.8	church was of a white Jesus. I'll link to the image in the show notes, but what's remarkable is how much of
0:45.8	Jesus remains while his face is gone.
0:49.2	Over 4,000 miles away in the country of Wales, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, an artist
0:55.0	named John Petz, who is known for his work with stained glass, heard about the bombing and offered
1:00.9	his services.
1:01.9	What's interesting is that the gift received from Wales,
1:06.0	the stained glass window that replaced the one that had been bombed,
1:10.0	was of a black Jesus hanging on a cross.

1:17.5	The physical appearance of Jesus has been argued about for centuries, argued about in almost every country.

1:27.0	When you pray, do you pray to a Jesus that looks like you?
1:31.0	I remember where I got my picture of Jesus. It wasn't from the
1:35.5	movies or a television show. It was from a picture book. My family had bought me this
1:40.4	book of Bible stories and I remember this specific picture of Jesus.
1:45.3	He was tall, he had long flowing brown hair, he had pale white skin, blue eyes, a halo around
1:52.2	his head and he kind of floated off the ground as if he were
1:55.9	so otherworldly, so wholly that he wouldn't touch the ground even as he walked.
