The House of Representatives voted to block President Trump from ordering more strikes on Iran.

It's Thursday, June 4th. Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories.

This is the first time a measure has cleared the House or Senate on a final vote to block

Trump from striking Iran since the war started more than three

months ago. The measure still faces big hurdles. It has to pass the Senate, and it's unclear whether

it will even go to a vote in that chamber. Nevertheless, it ratchets up the pressure on Trump to find a way

to end this unpopular war. Four Republicans joined Democrats in the vote.

One of them was Michigan Republican Tom Barrett. He spoke to reporters after the vote.

I share the interest in making sure that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon, but we have to do this in a way that is done

through the use of force authorization that Congress has the exclusive authority over. Congress alone declares war.

The war powers resolution requires presidents to remove U.S. forces from any conflict that Congress

has not authorized within 60 days. Trump hit that deadline on May 1st,

but he dodged it by arguing that hostilities have been terminated since a ceasefire took effect

in April, even though both sides have fired on each other since then. A reporter asked Trump

yesterday how he defines a ceasefire.
