And then before we get into this episode, I'd just have a brief word about the way the

power works is that when Baldwin says, whiteness is a metaphor for power, he's talking

about whiteness in a way that is not just lynching, not just overt racism, not the way

we think about white supremacy normally.

But you think about the idea that every character is white until otherwise named when we read

books.

Like that is a function of power.

The fact that new is the color of white people's skin and that mind is a function of power.

And I say that because representation matters, that the way we show the world is being diverse

and having people who skin looks like mine and other colors on TV and in books and in

narratives is really important because it helps deconstruct whiteness as a standard and

as normal.

And we can't take those things for granted.

But our work is about changing structures and systems.

Our work is also about changing the way that people see the world and the way that people

show up in the world and representation is a part of that.
