Summary

Watch the video version of this podcast here: https://youtu.be/E2F0v8tM7ls I used to spend over $2,000 a month on groceries for my family of five and we were STILL going over budget. Now I spend $1,200 and stick to it every single month. That's a 40% reduction, or $800 in savings every month! And I'm doing it without extreme couponing, without buying ten newspapers every Sunday, and without rushing from store to store at 5am. If your grocery bill has been creeping up and you feel like you can't control it, this video is for you. Sign up today to be first to know when registration opens! β†’ https://halfsizeme.com/cart Here's what changed for me: I stopped shopping at just one store assuming they had the best prices I got intentional with meal planning (really intentional) I started doing most of my shopping decisions BEFORE I left the house I eliminated the food waste from buying things I never used I balanced HEALTH and SAVINGS together (no "just eat beans and rice" mentality) What I'm NOT doing: ❌ Extreme couponing ❌ Rebate apps (though I'll teach you how, if you want to use them) ❌ Shopping at 10 different stores every week ❌ Sacrificing my family's health to save money I went from being a full-time extreme couponer back in 2008–2012 (cutting coupons from 10 newspapers, working CVS and Walgreens deals) to completely letting go of that during my weight loss journey and Half Size Me launch. But when our grocery budget kept climbing year after year, I knew I had to do something. I just didn't want to go back to that exhausting coupon life. So I figured out a simpler, more sustainable way. And now I'm teaching it. In this video, I share: Why I was so resistant to tackling my grocery budget (and what finally made me do it) How we paid off $180,000 in debt using Dave Ramsey's methods The difference between my old extreme couponing days and what I do now Why your food bill is probably your second-highest expense (and why that matters) How being intentional with planning saves more money than chasing deals Why I didn't drop from $2,000 to $1,200 overnight (and why you shouldn't either) The biggest mistake people make: buying "deals" that sabotage their weight loss goals This is NOT just about saving money. It's about saving money while ALSO supporting your health and weight loss goals. I refuse to teach you to eat junk food all day just because it's cheap. We're going to do this the right way... together. πŸ›’ JOIN THE CART SMART WORKSHOP I created a 3-week interactive workshop where we don't just talk about saving money on groceries, we DO IT together, step by step, day by day. This includes: Daily lessons and action steps Live Q&A sessions to troubleshoot YOUR specific situation Meal planning strategies that prioritize your health AND your budget How to shop intentionally and eliminate food waste Two payment options available (making it affordable for everyone) Sign up today to be first to know when registration opens! β†’ https://halfsizeme.com/cart πŸ’° My goal: Whatever you spend on this workshop, you make back many times over in grocery savings. If I'm saving $800/month using these methods, the workshop pays for itself almost immediately. This is a DOING workshop, not just a learning workshop. I want you saving money by the end of week one. πŸ“š Join the HSM Academy for ongoing support, coaching, and community: β†’ https://halfsizeme.com/join πŸŽ™οΈ Love the podcast? Hello, I am super excited to be here with you today because I want to share something.

0:07.2

I have shared this before, but not as much as my weight loss journey, which is my debt-free

0:12.9

journey. I've done videos in the past where Joel and I paid off $180,000 in student loan

0:20.3

consumer debt. We kind of really hunkered in on the Dave Ramsey concepts,

0:25.1

and we chose to pay all that off. It took us about 10 years to do that. We then did the next step

0:31.2

in Dave Ramsey, which was pay off our house. And with all of that, one of the things I got really good at a long time ago when

0:40.4

couponing was a thing, probably around 2008 to 2012, I was one of those really good

0:48.5

couponers. I would go out with very little money and I'd buy 10 newspapers every Sunday and I'd cut and clip and

0:56.1

really pay attention to all the sales ads and I'd often work deals at CVS and Walgreens

1:01.2

to get things for free using coupons and different sale promotional things that were going on at

1:08.0

the time. And it kind of was a full-time job. Well, in there, I lost my weight.

1:13.9

We launched Half-Size Me. So I actually let go of my couponing business. I used to teach classes

1:19.5

to people on how to do that before Half-Size Me. And I got really into the whole health and weight loss and I started really focusing on that.

1:29.2

The whole time behind the scenes, though, of course, paying off my debt because we are debt

free. We've paid off our house, all that good business. But then what happened to us,

1:38.7

and maybe this happened to you, around COVID, we noticed what we were budgeting for groceries

1:44.1

was creeping up, creeping up.

1:47.0

So we kind of got to this last year. And Joel and I looked at each other and we're like,

1:51.1

we are spending a tremendous amount of money on groceries. And I was super resistant to like

1:58.5

really diving into how to save money on groceries. I was shopping at one

2:03.1

store that I thought was the best price for everything. What was happening is I like most people,

2:08.3

right, I got food I'm not using. I'm spending the same amount or more every week. And even though
