This weekend marks a holiday that was originally celebrated 156 years ago.

June 19, 1866 marked the first anniversary of the day that Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas,

to tell the formerly enslaved people there that they were free.

Since then, the holiday has had deep meaning for African Americans, and in 2021, President Joe Biden declared

it a federal holiday. And you know how much brands love a holiday. When it comes to June

10th, however, some brands have missed the mark, shall we say. In late May, Walmart stocked its freezers with a new ice cream flavor under its great value brand.

The red velvet flavor was called, yep, Juneteenth.

The ice cream's tagline, quote, share and celebrate African American culture, emancipation, and enduring hope, end quote.
