Summary

This week on the show, we’re bringing you two stories from our producer Quinn Waller. First up, we hit the road. After getting to know “Jeff the Truck Driver” through his Unorthodox voice mail submissions about keeping kosher while on his long-haul deliveries, we had to know more about this very unique Jew. Quinn hit the highways to figure out the challenges observant Jews face in this industry. Then, Quinn brings us a story closer to home. She checks out Bagel Joint, a unique new bagel place in NYC that’s serving non-traditional flavors while still hewing to the legacy of traditional Jewish food. Hey, J. Crew. It's Summer Break, and it's producer Josh Cross here. Of course, we keep putting

out things because we can't quit you. So this week we're bringing you a couple of pieces from producer Quinn Waller with some

0:14.0

stories she really wanted to tell.

0:16.3

Her first story is a ride-along with an observant Jewish trucker and her second is

a story about bagels. But first you may have heard the voice you're about to hear

on the show before. Jeff wrote into us about Cosharing Fiesta Ware of all

things, but mentioned in passing that he's a truck driver. How many truck drivers do you know who are worried about keeping kosher?

0:36.0

The answer is zero, then you had the same answer as Quinn.

1:07.2

To be a truck driver you compound those together. It doesn't add up. It's not like 10 and 20 make 30%. I think they multiply to each other

1:16.2

This is Jeff. You're run-of-the-ant, Jewish, over-the-road truck driver.

And as far as I know I am one of the few mildly observant

Jewish people, I know there are other Jewish truck drivers but

1:39.8

religious demographics of truck drivers, I was only able to find one other example of an

observant to driving a truck. Also, Jeff is being modest when he calls himself

1:50.3

mildly observant. He keeps kosher,

and does his best to daubin or pray daily.
