Stocks posted losses on Friday although a late rebound left the major U.S. equity averages

only mildly lower at the close.

The NASDAQ closed down 0.1%.

The S&P 500 ended down 0.3% and the Dow finish down 0.2 percent.

10 of the 11 S&P sectors finished the day in red,

although the losses were generally light.

Real estate and utilities both fell around 1% with more modest declines seen elsewhere.

Energy was the lone winner on the session, posting a modest advance.

With the lackluster finished, the S&P 500 ended 2022 lower by about 19%.

The NASDAQ shed over 30% in 2022, while the Dow ended the year lower by about 9%.
