Summary

Walking in the Light: John 13: 1-17: Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this conversation, Rachael Groll talks about Jesus’ declaration, “I am the light of the world,” exploring what it means to walk in His truth and live as children of light. She unpacks the tension between belief and rejection, spiritual understanding versus blindness, and how hearing and obeying Jesus brings freedom and clarity. Rachael highlights the importance of trusting God’s timing, responding to His call, and letting His light guide decisions, relationships, and daily life, even when the world misunderstands or resists His message. ☆Pick up a copy of my latest book:  Knowing God’s Voice  ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesus ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here: ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? Serving is about humility, even when we feel overlooked. Leadership in the kingdom of God is different than leadership in the world. Service is like the heartbeat of spiritual maturity. If the son of God can humble himself to serve, then we can too. The way that Jesus is demonstrating this, he's literally modeling the behavior that he wants them to do. Am I serving in a way that reflects him? Jesus shows us what true humility actually looks like. Our influence flows from service. It's a practical invitation to live out your faith. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

There were years that I spent as a children's pastor where I did things that I felt like didn't even matter, that nobody saw.

0:19.0

I didn't even think Jesus saw, to be perfectly honest.

0:22.2

And I'm talking things like making 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches a day for all of our

0:28.8

sidewalk Sunday school kids or changing countless cypers in the nursery or making copies for all

0:35.2

the different classrooms for our Sunday morning services. All of those

0:39.2

little things that get done in the day to day that nobody sees. And to be perfectly honest,

0:44.6

I don't even think the leadership and the church knew that those are things that need to be done.

0:49.2

I remember being surprised with the news that I was going to get a sabbatical, and I was told that I was getting

0:57.8

three weeks off because I had worked at the church for a number of years, and they were going to

1:02.5

give me three weeks off starting that day, which included over the Christmas holiday, which was

1:08.5

one of our business times of year in children's ministry.

1:11.6

And the problem with that is that it takes a long time to prepare all the things that need to

1:18.7

happen in even just one Sunday, let alone three Sundays off, actually would have been four Sundays

1:25.2

off over Christmas, the busiest time of year. And we had like a toy drive going and we had Christmas gifts that needed to be wrapped and we

1:32.7

had all of these things that needed to be done. And I think if I had been given notice ahead of time

1:38.5

that I was going to be getting that sabbatical, then I could have prepared. But essentially,

1:43.1

it was like Friday. And they're like,

1:44.4

okay, this is a surprise. Merry Christmas. We'll see you back here in January. And on the surface,

1:50.7

like initially I was excited about that, but then I realized that I couldn't really do that

1:58.1

and steward well the kids that God had given me to serve. And it was such

2:03.2

attention because I was sent home. Nothing was prepared. And what ended up happening was every single
