Summary

I’m delighted that on this Pentecost Sunday, I can reflect on one of my favorite passages in the New Testament. It is taken from the fifth chapter of Paul’s letter to the Galatians. In this passage, Paul gives those who belong to Christ their marching orders by laying out the works of the flesh—those attitudes and actions that stand against the way of love—and the works of the Spirit.

my favorite passages in the New Testament. So the church gives it to us as the

0:51.3

second reading for Pentecost this year. I'm talking about a passage from the

0:56.0

fifth chapter of Paul's letter to the Galatians. Here's just a word by the way.

I'm currently reading NT writes a new biography of St. Paul, which is quite good.

1:06.6

Very lengthy, as all this books are. And I was intrigued by his suggestion, one of

1:11.8

the great Paul scholars in the world, that he thinks Galatians is the very first

1:16.5

letter of the Paul of a road. When I was going to school, the consensus was a

1:20.8

first Thessalonians, was the earliest Pauline letter. He makes an argument and I

1:25.0

won't rehearse it for you now, but that Galatians is the first letter in the

1:29.0

Paul road. So it's a very sacred text at the very least, one of his earliest

1:33.6

letters. Well, in this fifth chapter of the letter to the Galatians, he tells the

1:38.9

church, this very, very primitive Christian community, that the spirit is at

1:45.0

war with the flesh. Now, right away, we got to be careful. Hyper-careful.
