spent several summers on the Iron Islands shaped by the harsh environment of the

North Atlantic Ocean theers lived in a unique society.

All customs and traditions that had died out in many parts of Ireland still survived at the turn of the 20th century.

Singh has left us a mesmerizing account of life on the Iron Islands

and we will spend the next 30 minutes on these islands in the summer of 1901,

listening to descriptions of a society that from many of us

is hard to believe still existed into the early 20th century. Singh captured a time and

place that is now lost and gone forever, but in the course of this
