Glamour takes us out of our everyday ordinary lives

and into something that reaches toward the ideal.

had it. Barak Obama, George Clooney, and Jennifer Lawrence have it. The

latest Apple products have it too. We know it when we see it, but glamour is hard to define.

Just what do these people and products have? Is it good looks? Is it power? Style? All of the above?

Here to enlighten us is Virginia Pastrell, whose latest book is The Power of Glamour, Longing, and the Art of Visual Persuasion.

Virginia Postrell is a columnist for Bloomberg View and the author of The Groundbreaking Bestsellers The Substance of Style and the Future and

its enemies. She also teaches a special seminar on Glamour right here in the Masters and

Branding program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where

she joins me now.
