Monsieur Paul spent the following for. disappointed her very much. He took more interest in Sylvie, the house, Spaniel, and the plants in the garden than her.

Eventually trying to find solace, Lucy found a new pamphlet in her desk. It was a small book written by Pear Silas himself, very simply highlighting the benefits of Catholicism.

When Monsieur Paul finally asked her about it,

she gave nothing away, but he admitted that Pear Silas had warmed him about becoming too close with Lucy

while she remained so staunchly Protestant. He then spent the following weeks and months attempting to show Lucy all there was to love in the Roman Catholic Church.

However all Lucy could see was how pure it made her own faith seem in comparison.

She deemed the Catholic Church somewhat manipulative and gaudy.
