Last time, Lucy was determined to go back to the pensioner as soon as possible when the day arrived,

as prolonging the goodbye would have been too painful.

Dr John escorted her there after he had finished his calls and promised to write to her.

She was grateful for the offer and went to sleep hoping he really would,

though believing if he did at all, it would just be the ones.

The next morning, Monsieur Emmanuel caught Lucy weeping to herself in the kitchen while she thought she was alone.

She didn't give him the benefit of explaining why.

Geneva Fanchore wanted to know how distraught Dr John had been the night of the concert after seeing her with

Dehamal. Lucy embellished and made him out to be heartbroken and beside himself, though he had been

nothing of the sword.
