I'm Ellie Cawthorne. The Vikings famously raided Britain and Ireland, but they also

turn their attentions to Frankia and Europe's Western Seaboard. For today's podcast, our content

director, David Musgrove, spoke to Dr. Christian Coymans to find out more about the interactions

between the Vikings and the Franks.

Dr. Christian Coymans is a research fellow at the University of Liverpool, an expert in the Viking period and author of Monarchs and Hydrochs, the conceptual development of Viking activity

across the Frankish realm, circa 750 to 940. That book was published in hardback, a little ago and is out in paperback

on 30th September 2021. It's available for pre-order now. So when we think of Viking activity,

our thoughts often tend to think about what happened around the coast of Britain and Ireland,

particularly for those

listeners to this podcast who are based in the UK, I'm sure. Now, recent work has directed attention
