This is Gala Avery reporting to you from inside the Video Archive Cinema Club, the 20-seat Secret Cinema, located within the Vista.

Today, I am joined by Video Archive Cinema Club, manager Matt Lansman, to chat about the calendar for the week of Monday, December 16th.

It's almost Christmas gala.

And solstice and also Hanukkah. That's right.

Which starts very, very late this year. But we are just going to get ahead and get on into the movies because we have some great ones playing this week at the Cinema Club.

Let's start off with Tuesday the 17th at 2 p.m. We're playing Blast of Silence.

So this is one that I was really excited to get

onto the calendar this month because it's one of my favorite non-traditional Christmas movies.

And by that, I mean movies such as Die Hard and Gremlins and Batman Returns and other movies

that have Christmas kind of going on in the background, but they aren't necessarily Christmas movies.

But I do think that that season of giving kind of informs some of the events that are going on, specifically in this movie.

Sean Baker's Tangerine is a really, really good example for me of a movie that takes place around the Christmas time.

And this week, you can see Anora on the big screen at the Vista, which we're doing a special

matinee run of because it played so well here on glorious 35 millimeter.

Blast of Silence is written, directed, and starring Alan Barron as a hitman named Frankie Bono.

And this was made mostly starring him and his friends and family, and it was made for only $20,000 in 1961.
