The US is ramping up its pressure campaign on Venezuela.

After the seizure of an oil tanker earlier in the week, the US has announced new sanctions on shipping companies and ships that allegedly move Venezuelan oil.

Sanctions have also been placed on three of President Nicolas Maduro's nephews.

Oil is central to Venezuela's economy. It has the planet's single largest known amount of crude

oil, and its state-owned oil and gas company is the biggest revenue source for Maduro's

cash-strapped government. Yesterday, President Donald Trump described what's behind his pressure campaign.

Well, it's about a lot of things, but one of the things it's about is the fact that they've

allowed millions of people to come into our country from their prisons, from gangs,

from drug dealers, and from mental institutions, probably proportionately more than anybody else.

Republicans in Indiana have defied an attempt by the Trump administration to redraw the state's

congressional map.

Yesterday's Senate vote saw 21 Republicans join 10 Democrats to vote down map changes in the

deep red state, which would have likely led to Republicans sweeping all of the nine

House seats in next year's midterms.

And that's in the face of threats by Trump.

Before the vote on social media, he said Republicans the vote against the measure will face

primary challenges from MAGA supporters and lose their seats.

But they didn't seem phased.
