It is the time of year to start talking about Veggie Garden layout.

If this is a garden that you are revisiting and coming back to, I think this is the time

to make any changes that you might want to make before the season really gets underway.

So let's talk about this.

The first thing you want to do is really just looking at the area that you are either

gardening in currently or a May garden in soon and watch it.

Look at the permanent features that exist, trees, shrubs, rocks, any sort of buildings

Look at how the sun plays over the course of the day and that will give you a stronger

sense of where beds make sense to be located.

Then think about the temperature range, are there structures that will give mid-afternoon

That will inform what you plant there, but also if a bed should be there in the first place.

Think about the topography inclines, ditches, how will water move through the garden.

That's a challenge that's happened in our place here at the epic homestead is there

sort of a natural sloped grade from high to low from the back of the property to the front.

So water, when we do get a rain, will flow from back to front and actually has cause some

issues because it has flooded certain areas that we wanted to remain dry.
