We're celebrating Canada Day because we're speaking to a real-life Canadian in this episode that is Barry Eidlin who has been on this

podcast before talking about what the rank and file strategy is and we talk to

him about his book Labor and the Class Idea in the United States and Canada.

I suppose I should say as a kind of full disclosure that I was Barry's graduate student for one year up in the in the great north up in Montreal

Wow, the crony of the crony is them. It runs so deep well we we made a long-term pack where I would invite him on to this

podcast multiple times over the years in exchange for extra credit in his

capitalism, socialism, and democracy class, which I did terribly.

The jack of an editor just really bombed that one.

So we are talking with Barry, who is a sociologist,

assistant professor of sociology at McGill University.

And we're talking with him and with Chris Meizano,

who is a contributing editor to Jacobin, editorial board member at our journal

Catalyst and the union staffer in New York. He reviewed Barry's book

Labor and the Class Idea in the United States and Canada for Jacobin recently.
