There are calls for vaccine manufacturing to ramp up to help curb the

MPOCs outbreak.

Hello, live from the UK, this is the Marketplace Morning Report from the

BBC World Service. I'm Sarah Rogers in Fort Lealaburn.

As the MPOCs virus spreads from Africa to Europe and Asia, the main vaccine manufacturer

says rollouts could be hampered by a lack of orders.

The highly contagious disease formerly known as Monkey Pox has been declared a global

emergency by the World Health Organization.

There's since been one case in Sweden and three in Pakistan.

Bavarian Nordic is the main producer of the vaccine, the chief executive is Paul Chaplin.

We're going to need to try and make sure that our vaccine supply is sufficient and maybe involving

other manufacturers to increase capacity.

Having said all that, the situation in Africa has been evident the whole of this year.

And the only dose order that we've received is the recent order from Hera,

where they ordered 175,000 doses which we topped up with a 40,000 dose donation.

So while there's a lot of speculation and a lot of concern, quite frankly, apart from media, no

one is really contacting us for doses.

Paul Chaplin and the Hera that he referred to there is Europe's emergency health body.

Well, as with COVID, there is a need to find effective and affordable vaccines.

Dr. Sunia Nishta, the chief executive of Garvey,

the Vaccine Alliance, says they're working out what they have.
