Hello, creatives. I'm Joanna Penn. And this is episode number 652 of the podcast. And it is Friday the 28th of October 22 as I record this.

In today's show, I'm talking to Jennifer Hilt about the importance of genre tropes.

And appropriately, since it's Halloween as this goes out, our examples are from the horror genre.

But neither of us like slasher, gore horror, which is only one

subgenre, but we both enjoyed Stranger Things and Midnight Mass on Netflix. So we talk about

those as examples, as well as comedy horror, supernatural horror and more. It will be a useful

episode even if you don't write or read horror because the principles

apply across genre and our examples will help you come up with your own tropes.
