| 0:00.0 | Hello, everybody. |
| 0:08.7 | Welcome to another wonderful weekend edition of Daily Tech News show, |
| 0:13.0 | gratefully provided to you in thanks for your support of the show. |
| 0:17.3 | And joining us today is Dr. Nicky. |
| 0:21.9 | We are going to talk about a new paper in the journal Marine Mammal Science, |
| 0:27.2 | where researchers used a drone to film sperm whales headbutting for the first time. |
| 0:33.4 | Well, they may have not been headbutting for the first time, |
| 0:35.8 | but it's the first time we've captured them on film. |
| 0:38.8 | So we're going to learn about how drones help science. |
| 0:41.8 | Yeah, we'll use this paper as a jumping off point and then dive into all the other drone applications. |
| 0:48.4 | But of course, this paper came across my radar or sonar because I'm the headbutting person. |
| 0:55.5 | Right. |
| 0:55.8 | Perfect. |
| 0:56.6 | Yeah. |
| 0:57.1 | It's been hypothesized, you know, since Moby Dick, basically, that whales headbut things. |
| 1:02.1 | But thanks to this drone footage in the Azores, we now can prove it with video that they |
| 1:08.8 | actually underwater sperm whales will you know they have this |
| 1:12.6 | giant bump in the front of their head called the junk and they'll ran into each other with it |
| 1:17.3 | kind of like rams do on land potentially you know fighting for mates and uh we now know this thanks |
| 1:25.3 | to a drone uh sperm whales the, the Rams of the Sea. |
| 1:29.2 | Yes, and I will be using that. |
