Summary
Co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) are back with another episode of the USC Triple-Double Podcast, and this week's episode is perhaps the longest yet. But when someone breaks the school scoring record, a podcast episode deserves to go a couple minutes longer. The co-hosts do a deep dive break down of the Women of Troy's road sweep in the Bay Area where freshman sensation JuJu Watkins became the first player in women's basketball this season to score 50+ points, setting a new USC record with 51 points in an upset of No. 4 Stanford.
The Women of Troy jump five spots to No. 10 in the Associated Press top 25 poll after their defeat of the Cardinal and a come-from-behind-and-pull-away win in Berkeley over California. The Trojans also climbed in the Pac-12 standings, moving into a tie for fourth place with UCLA, and have a favorable schedule moving forward. The men's team avoiding falling into a two-game deficit in last place with a 28-point win over Oregon State to snap its lengthy losing streak.
Shotgun and Connor break down all the latest action for both teams, including looking closely at all the standout numbers from Watkins' 51-point effort and celebrating everything that accompanied the record-breaking performance. They also discuss Collier's return to a team that seems to be having the most fun it's had in a long time and spotlight the elevated play of Bronny James, particularly with the ball in his hands when he had 13 assists to two turnovers last week. The podcasting duo also look at the positives and negatives of the recent USC basketball action from both squads and look forward to the next week to preview what lies ahead. For the men, they try to carry their momentum on the road as they try to follow the women's lead and look for their own Bay Area sweep. The Women of Troy will host the Arizona schools at home where they'll have to avoid a letdown from their excellent road trip.
That's all after USC men's associate head coach Chris Capko graciously takes the time to join the show for an in-depth interview about the Trojans finally breaking free from a five-game losing streak amid improved play from young guards Oziyah Sellers and Boogie Ellis. Capko also updates the status of freshman point guard Isaiah Collier, who has missed the last six games, and when he could from a broken hand. Collier's return could potentially bring USC back to full strength for the final nine games of the regular season.
