Joining me is Jamima Pierre. She is the Haiti America's coordinator for the Black Alliance

for Peace and an associate professor at UCLA. Dr. Pierre, welcome to pushback.

Oh, thank you for having me. Happy to be here.

As we're speaking, it's been over a

week since the assassination of Haitian president, Jovanel Moise. I'm just wondering what you

think is important for people to know right now as details remain unclear about what exactly

happened. Yeah. So there's an assassination of a sitting president in Haiti.

One of the first things I want people to know is that the last time there was an assassination

of a city president in Haiti was in 1915 and right before the U.S. invasion and occupation of Haiti for 19 years from 1915,

to 1934. And so people know this history. And one of the first things that has emerged,

you know, is this assassination should not lead to more foreign intervention in medley, especially from the U.S.

in Haiti.

So that's the first thing.

And then I can talk about, you know, Mouy's as being, you know, to think about the assassination

of Mouis in Haiti, we have to think about what we have to go back to talk about the last decade,

how Moise came to power, because Moise's presidency was without much mandate.

Moise had been ruling by decree for the past 18 months.

There was hardly, there was no sitting parliament.

He led all their mandates.

He did not organize elections.

So there are no members of parliament.
