| 0:00.0 | Hey everyone, welcome to our new series here at EM Clerkship. It's called Upstairs. This new content will explore some high-yield pearls and key medications we are exposed to on off-service rotations. I've named this series upstairs as a kind reminder that consults are often like upstairs neighbors. Everything is easier when we all get along. |
| 0:23.6 | If you haven't heard from me yet, I'm Isabel. |
| 0:26.6 | Hi. I'm one of the newest members of the EM clerkship team. |
| 0:29.6 | As an intern resident, I have been spending quite a lot of time outside of the department, |
| 0:34.6 | rotating with other services. |
| 0:36.6 | While these months are often lovingly |
| 0:38.5 | referred to as career reaffirming rotations, I'm here to highlight a few key things to prepare |
| 0:44.6 | you for a time outside the department or remind you of some facts we should bring back home to |
| 0:50.1 | the ED. We'll keep it quick, to the point, and hopefully mildly entertaining for all of |
| 0:55.8 | our EM scatterbrains. Before we begin, I want to offer a brief disclaimer. While I have done |
| 1:01.2 | quite a bit of research for these episodes, I am still a resident, and therefore obviously |
| 1:05.7 | not an expert in any of these off-service fields. These recommendations are just based on things I have learned |
| 1:11.7 | from my own experiences and my own research. So take them with a grain of salt. I will do some case |
| 1:17.7 | scenarios to keep the content interesting and interactive, but please know that these are made up |
| 1:22.9 | and not based on any real cases that I have had while on rotations. All right, let's get to the episode. |
| 1:29.6 | Today, we are taking a trip to the psychiatric emergency department. |
| 1:33.5 | Now, we all see many, many patients with psychiatric complaints or history in our general ERs. |
| 1:39.8 | However, I've had the opportunity to spend time in some specialized psychiatric facilities designed |
| 1:45.8 | to treat patients in need of acute psychiatric care. |
| 1:50.5 | At a glance today, we'll look at one psychiatric pearl and three psychiatric medications |
| 1:55.7 | I pulled from these experiences. |
| 1:57.9 | Our pearl holds. |
