One of the more common traditional marriage vows is the one that says, until death, do us part.

And we're going to unpack that today.

I'm John Fuller, along with Greg Smalley and his wife, Aaron, who lead the Focus Marriage team.

And Greg, when couples are getting ready to walk the aisle, how do you encourage them

to remember this is a lifetime covenant?

Yeah.

It really is to first and foremost understand biblically, what did God mean by that?

Because marriage is God's idea.

He's the one that established this covenant that you know, that me and Aaron with him have

entered into. It's a very, very serious deal. And so I always have my couples read the verses in the

Bible. We talk about what is a covenant, you know, this lifelong promise that you're making me. That's a big deal to God.

And this is not entered into lightly.

And we need to understand that.

And so I think from there, just I think the way to understand what this lifelong promise really looks like.

Because, you know, anybody can say anything. Like when I've

asked my few, you know, at the time, my future son-in-laws, you know, they were asking for our

blessing, you know, I would say, well, is this for a lifetime? Oh, yeah, yeah, totally. In believing

that they believe that, we did have a son-in-law that walked away from our oldest daughter three years into

their marriage, and he had said all the right things to me.

He had said, oh, yeah, this marriage is for life, and we hit our times, we'll get help.

And I believe he believed that.

But I think the evidence now is I really think about what's the evidence of that lifelong commitment?
