I welcome John Bolton former National Security Advisor to the President of the United States,

former Ambassador to the United Nations.

We're going to the United Nations now an event in these last hours that is a puzzle. The United States

abstained on a United Nations Security Council vote that looks clearly

directed against Israel at Israel

provocatively at Israel calling for an immediate ceasefire and the US

abstained. John a very good evening to you. Thank you for this. Is there a straightforward way we could rationalize this abstention?

Good evening. Well it represents a substantial shift in the administration position from being

supportive of Israel's efforts to eliminate Hamas, to being really on the opposite side.

And it follows a tangled course

where previously the administration

had vetoed three resolutions,

pretty similar to this one, different wording to a certain

extent, but key point in both, the vetoed resolutions and where we abstained was no linkage

between release of the hostages and a cease fire deal.

In fact, the United States proposed its own resolution on Friday that already showed weakness

in the administration position using only ambiguous language

to discuss the hostages.

So it was sort of a halfway step.
