The Trump administration is heating up its battles with elite American universities.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement yesterday, saying Harvard University couldn't accept any new students from outside the U. any that are already enrolled have to transfer,

or they'll, quote, lose their legal status. The move is punishment for refusing to turn over

conduct records for foreign students requested by DHS. Harvard quickly condemned the action,

describing it as unlawful, and it's not clear when and how the policy will be

implemented, with legal challenges expected. Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services

is accusing Columbia University of acting with, quote, deliberate indifference towards harassment

of Jewish students on campus since October 2023.

The university says the announcement came as part of its work with the government

to find the best ways to fight anti-Semitism on campus.
