Previously in our story Keith Mullinsins, you may recall, was in conversation with his friend and

colleague Hodge. Both men advised each other on the importance of keeping a low profile lest they somehow bring themselves

to the attention of Russian gangster Sergei Alexandrov.

Now there was some uncertainty between Keith and Hodge as to whether the third member of their little gang,

Daimo, has been as discreet as they have.

Of course we haven't met D De Mo yet, but we will. Soon. Before that, I need to set the background

to our more immediate scene. I don't know what time it is where you are, but in our story, we're into the afternoon of the day that, if everything goes according to Lydia and the late John Flinch's plans,

will be commemorated by sect members around the world

as that which saw the resurrection of the vampire Lord Underwood.

Ah, but, unfortunately for Lydia, everything is not going quite according to plan.

David Flinch, now the guardian of Underwood, and so the family boss, has just found out that Lydia

has kidnapped a young man with the sole purpose of murdering him. If Lydia has her way, this young

man whose name is Gavin will be bled to death in sacrifice at tonight's resurrection ceremony so that Underwood may rise again.

Now David is unhappy to say the least, and we join him now a few moments after we saw him last time.

He's striding through the house, angry, determined, and yet desperate too, because the sun is now slowly descending through the bright blue afternoon sky of Chapter 11. 11.

David walked through the kitchen.

There was no sign of Anna.

Maybe she was off polishing the family knuckle dusters or something. It was hard to believe that the nice little woman he'd been chatting to over toast that morning was complicit in the imprisonment of Gavin, but at the same time it followed.
