Episode 5. Welcome back listeners to Blood and Smoke episode 5.

Last time we followed Underwood and Mathias as they escaped jail on Jamaica. On the way they recruited a new friend and

ally, Moru, an escaped slave. Moru claims to know what it is that Underwood has become. After a chase through

Kingston, our heroes managed to join up with Captain Catesby and his men and were then rode away to Catesby's ship.

But remember, listeners, this story isn't just taking place in Jamaica in 1719. It's also taking place in London in 1940, with

Underwood, Arthur, and the magnificent magnetophon machine.

And it's through that medium that we've met Lady Underwood.

Her ladyship doesn't want Underwood to go to war and that's been causing some friction. Friction that came to an abrupt end

last time when Lufwaar for bombs began to fall. We left David, listening to that recording as it ended, and we join him this time, pretty much right there. David sat for a moment just looking at the computer screen and the many MP3's still

unplayed. How far into Underwood's life had Arthur managed to go. His bladder ached and he realized

he badly needed to pee. He got up and went to the bathroom.

Afterwards he found that all desire he'd had to slip quietly into a beer and marijuana-induced

coma had left him.

His mind was alert, focused, and he wanted it to stay that way. He made himself

a black coffee and went back to the computer. He lit a fresh cigarette, selected the next MP3, and clicked play.

Ah yes, there she goes, said Underwood. The reels are turning. You know, Flinch, it's been so long since we last did this recording business that I've completely forgotten where I was in the story.

This is the first chance we've had to get the old machine going again since she relocated here to Surrey Street. How's it running? Did it survive the move all right?

The machine appears to be working fine, sir.

Yeah, if only we could say the same for her ladyship, eh?
