Summary

Sometimes when we get upset, we don't know entirely why because what we're upset over seems so insignificant. But a lot of the time, the reason we're upset is because things that we've struggled with in the past resurface. In today's episode, I talk about why I think it's important to understand why things trigger you the way they do. I talk about my experience with being bullied over how I smell, growing up with parents who fought, being told I eat too much, anxiety over being late, friends mistreating me, and managing others emotions.

Hi besties. Welcome back to Trinidad to Care or if you're new here, welcome to

0:20.3

Trinidad to Care. My name is Ashley.

0:22.6

Thanks for clicking on today's episode and hanging out with me today. So as a lot of you know,

0:28.7

I am a pretty emotional person, which is totally okay. I own it. But I've come to realize

0:36.5

that I'm triggered by a lot of things, especially things from

0:42.8

my past. I've come to realize that who I am today is based off things that I've gone through

0:51.2

or things that I've struggled with.

0:54.5

And like, it's like obviously, duh, you know, you wouldn't be who you are today

0:59.4

without everything you've been through good or bad.

1:02.8

But a lot of what I do and the way I react to things is directly connected to my past. I thought it would be interesting to talk about it.

1:14.8

Like I said, there's good and bad things, but today I want to focus on the negative things

1:21.5

because I think it would be good for me to talk through and some of you might be able to relate to it so

1:29.5

it might actually help you. The reason I think it's important to make the correlation between

1:34.7

who you are now and the things that you've gone through is so you have clarity to why things

1:41.8

affect you the way that they do. Rather than being upset over something

1:46.7

and having no idea why it made you feel the way it did, you're able to connect it to something

1:53.6

which validates your feelings and it makes it easier to digest. Instead of thinking,

2:00.7

oh my God, why am I so worked up over this? Why am I

2:03.9

feeling like this? It's not that big of a deal. I'm being overdramatic. I need to get a grip.

2:10.3

It's like, no, this thing resembles something that happened to me that I clearly struggled with and it's bringing up feelings.

2:20.9

It's bringing up things that I felt when that thing did happen to me.

2:26.2

Not only is it helpful for you, but it also helps people around you understand what's happening
