Work will stop September 30th if the government shuts down.

A White House spokesman writes in a memo,

Now House Republicans have a stark choice to make.

Will they honor their word, meet their responsibility to avoid a shutdown, and act on life and

death priorities like fighting the fentanyl crisis?

There is no reason, there is no reason for Congress to shut down the government, absolutely

none.

Republicans say a shutdown threat is leverage.

We're going to try to avoid a shutdown, but unfortunately at the end of the day, the

only power that Congress has to hold these agencies accountable to do their jobs is the

power of the poorest.

Oh my God, I can't believe we're going to go through this conversation.

So we got the whole debt ceiling thing, we run up against now and then, and it gets

used by leverage as leverage from whichever party is want to use it for leverage at the

time.

And it's an imaginary limit that we made up ourselves and it hasn't done us any good in

that we found out this weekend that this year we're going to have $2.1 trillion for an

annual deficit, just one year.

That's correct, absolutely shocking.
