Summary
Publishing, as an industry, has evolved massively in the last couple of decades, and with the development of technology, almost everyone can be a published author in today’s world.
But having your book published, even if through self-publishing methods, requires an understanding of the publishing world and its standards, especially while the publishing industry continues to undergo immense change.
Today, I am thoroughly excited to introduce the CEO of Dudley Court Press Publishing, and a published author herself, Gail Woodard. She is a passionate and creative entrepreneurial woman who is committed to helping publish meaningful books, and who is joining us to discuss the intricacies of the publishing industry and what it takes to be a successful published author.
Gail is a leading advocate for profitable, strategic book publishing with an extended focus on marketing and book sales. She is committed to giving her clients the guidance and support they need to create and publish their goal project. Grounded in authenticity, confidence, and clarity, Gail puts her clients first and makes sure their ideas flow from their minds into a successfully published book. She is personally involved with every project that comes her company’s way and focuses on publishing impactful books to help interesting authors change the world through the words they write.
Listen to Episode 46 of Rejuvenaging, to learn the practical steps you need to make in order to get yourself published.
Some questions I ask:
- What does hybrid publishing mean? (03:01)
- What does an author come to you with? Is it a draft of a manuscript? Is it something that’s been edited by somebody? Is it an idea and then you give them the ‘okay’? (07:03)
- Do you find that books can be better if somebody is writing about their passion, or is it a matter of being technically a good writer that makes the book good? (11:37)
- Are agents still part of the picture in today’s publishing world? (12:46)
- Now, with COVID, since people have more time on their hands, are you finding more people are interested in following through with writing books? (31:34)
- What advice do you have for somebody who has an idea, who’s pretty intelligent, did well academically, and could probably write a book if they got down to it? (32:59)
In this episode you will learn:
- The difference between traditional, self, and hybrid publishing (03:17)
- How did Gail get to be who she is today (13:30)
- The seven rules and practices of life (22:20)
- Some advice for people who want to start writing a book (32:59)
- Why it’s essential to also have your book as an e-book. (38:34)
