Summary

James Judkins started out as a circus worker, eating swords and fire, then working up to ringleader and manager. As a talent scout operating in other countries, he became professionally involved in sorting visas foreign countries, then eventually transitioned to a full-time visa agency. He joins the show to discuss 1) what it’s like working at the circus, and 2) how temp visas work for seasonal workers, and how they could work better.

And last month I flew down to McCallin, Texas to visit the border and put together a pretty good two-hour special on the topic.

I decided to make the discussion into an episode in its own right. So at one point at that

press junket we were getting ready to hear from a peach farmer about temporary

agricultural visas and as a joke I said to my table

which visa do we want to cheer for which one do we want to booed because the concept of

cheering or booing for specific visa paperwork struck me is a funny thing to do.

But a guy at the end of the table,

with a mustache and bears a striking resemblance to Wilford Bremerley,

leaned forward to very earnestly tell me,

actually, both visas are mutually beneficial to the applicants and to their host countries.

Now originally I was going to get a quick sound bite from this fellow to incorporate into last

month special, maybe two or three minutes just to discuss visas, but I quickly discovered that the reason he was

interested in visas is that he is a retired circus ringmaster who spent decades working in the

circus. And so we don't even get into immigration

for about half an hour because I had a lot of circus questions for him.

But then when we do get into immigration visas,

he's extremely knowledgeable. So I decided to make this
