Welcome to the Animal Law podcast.

We're going to do something a little bit different this month.

And, you know, if you're a regular listener, you know, we usually delve into a case.

But whenever we talk about something that happened in the EU, I have to give a disclaimer that I don't understand

to you at all, including on farmed animals. I know a little bit, but, you know, probably enough to be

dangerous, not really enough to be enlightening. So we're going to try to fix that today with

political scientist Dr. Neal Delahann, author of the just published The Compassion Mandate,

Remaking the European Union's Leadership on Farmed Animal Welfare.

So Neil is an expert in EU farm to animal policy, and he works with rethink priorities,

and he's going to help us try to understand what has been accomplished,

why the EU has probably not

progressed as far in protecting farmed animals as many of us would have hoped. If we were

kind of aware of what was going on maybe 20, 25 years ago, what we can learn from both the

progress and the lack of progress.

And that includes for people who are in the EU and people who aren't because, you know,

from the animal's point of view, it's all the same problems, even that we may deal with them in different ways.
