And this is Marianne Sullivan.

And on this week's show, Marianne's guest will be Dr. Andrew Rowan, who has been an important figure in the animal protection movement for many years, and most

recently is the co-author with Arnold R. Luke of underdogs, pets, poverty, and people. And he's the founder

of Well, that's cool. I think we've been, he's definitely been on our radar for

quite some time. Yeah, I know he's very well known in this movement, and I don't know why we

haven't had him on before this, but I'm glad we had him on now. I particularly wanted to

interview him about this book, of which he's the co-author, and because it's a topic in which

I am particularly interested, and I imagine a lot of you are too.

And it's the issue of the progress we've made for dogs, and, you know, to a lesser degree, but a real degree for cats,

and how there is so much less killing of them.

But the animals who belong to people who don't have a lot of money, who are

poor, get treated incredibly differently, both the ability of people to take care of them

and the willingness of social institutions to reach out to help these animals. They just don't get the same. And this book is a

really interesting case study of two communities, one in Central America, one in the United States,

and how they deal with these issues. People's attitudes toward their animals, misconceptions about people's attitudes

toward their animals. So it's a really interesting conversation and one that I think we can't

have too often. It's definitely the issue about dogs and cats that I most like to cover.

Yeah, totally. I'm excited to hear it. It's an interesting counterpart to our interview with the vegan veterinarian a few weeks ago, for sure, I think.

Both relating to companion animals and some of the current issues.
