American Airlines flight collided midair with a Black Hawk helicopter just as the

commercial flight was about to land at Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C.

The operation did switch to a recovery effort this morning, and it is said to be the deadliest

aviation disaster in the United States since November 12, 2001, when an American Airlines flight crashed

in New York just months after 9-11, killing all 260 people on board.

The airplane involved here was a bombardier, CR7, sorry, CRJ 700 regional jet with 64 people on board, 60 passengers, and four crew members,

and the helicopter was an Army UH-60 helicopter with three on board, one officer, one warrant

officer, and a crew chief. Both landed in the Potomac River following the crash.
