Summary
THE WORD THIS WEEK IS: unbelief.
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” – Mark 9:24
What is unbelief? How does unbelief manifest itself? Why is it unreasonable to not believe? And why is unbelief dangerous spiritually and emotionally?
So let’s put our academic hat on as we listen to some lecture points on unbelief from none other than the “Father of Modern Revivalism”, Charles Grandison Finney.
Go rise up. || xxE

| 0:00.0 | What's up, friends. It's E. And welcome to a new episode of Midweek Rise Up. I pray that you're seeing God move and work in your life as you give gratitude and praise for the day that you're in. In this episode, we're going to address a word that I believe has taken over society. So let's each of us prepare our heart, clear our mind, take a deep breath. And let's unpack the word this week together as we jump into the good news. |
| 0:23.2 | The word for this week is unbelief. I have been hearing more and more the word revival being thrown |
| 0:28.8 | around in Christian circles than I think I ever have. And so this week I wanted to read some sermon |
| 0:33.6 | points from one of the most influential American Presbyterian ministers and leaders in the |
| 0:38.5 | second great awakening in the United States. He has also been called the father of modern |
| 0:43.3 | revivalism. His name is Charles Grandison Finney. And I'll do an episode on revival in the future, |
| 0:51.0 | but for this week, I wanted to speak on the word of unbelief. Because I feel that |
| 0:55.5 | unbelief is blind and carries within itself a form of infidelity, of disbelief, and of divine |
| 1:01.3 | revelation. And today, I have to be honest with you, now more than ever, I feel like our faith |
| 1:06.3 | is being challenged in a way that it really has not been before in a very, very long time. And it's not the |
| 1:11.9 | faith with words that's being challenged, like can you regurgitate Bible verses? It's faith with |
| 1:16.3 | action. It's faith that proves why we are not hypocrites. And it's boldly standing up for the |
| 1:21.3 | truth and proclaiming the gospel and being unashamed to do so. And here's what I mean. It's the individuals |
| 1:26.6 | that say, I believe, yet their confidence in God reflects otherwise. And here's what I mean. It's the individuals that say, I believe, |
| 1:28.4 | yet their confidence in God reflects otherwise. And it's the individuals that say, I believe, |
| 1:34.1 | yet the appetites of their anxieties are fed with fear instead of completely surrendering to God. |
| 1:40.4 | And in March chapter 16, verse 16, it says, whoever believes in is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. |
| 1:48.5 | In another verse that might come to mind when you hear the word unbelief in scripture, |
| 1:53.1 | it's found in Mark chapter 9, verse 24. |
| 1:55.9 | Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, |
| 1:58.0 | I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief. And in the New |
| 2:02.3 | Testament, if you're looking for other places in the gospel of disbelief, I highly recommend |
